The Master of Research in Humanities provides a tailored, individualized master's program within an organized, cross-disciplinary research setting. You'll conduct an in-depth research project with a curriculum collaboratively designed by you and your supervisor(s). This MRes serves both personal and professional growth, while also preparing students for doctoral studies (PhD). It spans diverse fields within the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, covering areas such as Communications, Media, and Culture; English literature; Film and cinema; History; Law; Linguistics; Philosophy; Politics; Religion; and Scottish literature.
This one-year, research-focused program pairs you with one or more supervisors to craft a study plan aligned with your academic goals. While independent research forms the core of your work, regular supervisory sessions offer guidance, feedback, and progress reviews. Beyond self-directed study, you'll access various learning resources to support your research, including specialized courses that equip you with the skills necessary to excel in your project.
