In this Digital Culture and Society MA program, you'll examine how global digital advancements influence socio-political and economic domains including employment, governance, identity, cultural exchange, finance, and industry. You'll analyze diverse platforms including social networks, dating applications, health trackers, e-commerce systems like Amazon, and navigation tools such as Google Maps. A collaborative research project allows you to apply theoretical knowledge to practical design challenges while developing and promoting an original digital concept. Elective modules offer specialization opportunities in areas like AI's societal impact, open culture movements, digital preservation, entrepreneurial strategies, geospatial technologies, user experience design, or digital marketing. The program concludes with a dissertation, enabling you to investigate a digital technology topic aligned with your professional aspirations. Additional academic support includes weekly writing workshops and optional coding instruction through the Writing Lab and Coding Lab, where you can develop fundamental programming skills under expert guidance.

Qualification Requirements

A minimum 2:1 undergraduate Bachelor’s (honours) degree. If you have a lower degree classification, or a degree in an unrelated subject, your application may be considered if you can demonstrate significant relevant work experience, or offer a related graduate qualification (such as a Masters or PGDip). Bachelor’s degree with 2:1 honours in English, or a related discipline. For those returning to study, evidence of appropriate experience will be required.

In order to meet the academic entry requirements for this programme you should have a minimum 2:1 undergraduate degree with a final mark of at least 60% or above in the UK marking scheme. If you are still studying you should be achieving an average of at least 60% or above in the UK marking scheme.

Please note: Meeting the minimum requirements for your application to be considered does not guarantee an offer as applications for this programme are very competitive. 

Overseas students will be required to demonstrate IELTS of 7.0 overall with a minimum of 6.5 in each skill and TOEFL IBT 100 overall with a minimum of 25 in writing and 23  in each of the other skills.
