UK schools are seeking passionate geography teachers eager to impart knowledge about diverse locations, natural features, and environmental systems.
This program is tailored to equip you with the tools for effectively guiding KS3 and KS4 pupils. You'll cultivate techniques to inspire classroom enthusiasm for exploring our world. Upon successful completion, you'll earn a recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), opening doors to teaching opportunities nationwide.
During training, you'll gain practical experience through placements, participate in professional development seminars, and attend specialized curriculum workshops. From orientation guidance to first-lesson strategies, your dedicated tutor will provide continuous support throughout your PGCE experience.
The Secondary Geography PGCE spans one academic year (September-July). This school-based program features an introductory phase before placements, complemented by weekly university sessions focusing on curriculum knowledge and teaching methodologies. Additionally, you'll complete 20 Intensive Training and Practice (ITaP) days concentrating on core educational competencies to enhance classroom performance.
For hands-on experience, you'll complete over 120 days across two secondary schools, plus primary school observations. Rest assured, you'll gradually build teaching responsibilities without immediate full-class expectations.
Career Prospects
Earning your PGCE with QTS prepares you for geography teaching positions throughout England.
Many participants secure teaching contracts during their PGCE year, often within our partner institutions. Post-completion, you may enroll in our Masters in Education program. Your PGCE awards advanced standing, enabling degree completion by your second teaching year.
