As one of the UK's most venerable and distinguished institutions, the University of St Andrews boasts a rich academic heritage. St Mary's College (the School of Divinity), home to the Institute for Theology, Imagination and the Arts, traces its origins to 1538 and resides in a stunning 16th-century quadrangle at the university's core. Doctoral candidates enjoy superb resources within the School, such as the historic King James Library and the Roundel - a specialized research hub offering views of St Andrews' 12th-century cathedral remains. ITIA's Ph.D. program maintains high standards and selectivity, designed for students with sufficient academic preparation to undertake independent doctoral research. We encourage applications from qualified individuals across all disciplines intersecting theology and the arts, with specific faculty specializations detailed on our staff pages. Prospective students are invited to make informal inquiries at any time.
