The Centre for Religion and Public Life (CRPL) examines religion's multifaceted influence in modern society across local, national, and international contexts. It unites faculty and researchers from the School of Philosophy, Religion and History of Science along with other departments at the University of Leeds, under the leadership of Professor Johanna Stiebert. Utilizing diverse approaches including sociological, anthropological, theological, and cultural studies frameworks, the Center emphasizes interdisciplinary methods as essential for understanding religion's public role. Current research explores modern religious dynamics intersecting with pressing topics like gender identity, racial diversity, migration patterns, digital media, and socioeconomic progress. Studies span geographic areas from Leeds to broader UK/European settings, as well as African and Asian regions. The Center specializes in multiple faith traditions including Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Sikhism, and emerging spiritual movements.
