Our Interpreting Studies PhD program allows you to conduct groundbreaking original research under the guidance of our expert faculty. Manchester's Centre for Translation and Intercultural Studies (CTIS) hosts the UK's largest group of translation and interpreting scholars, drawing visiting academics and graduate students from diverse international backgrounds. CTIS offers an outstanding research environment with regular academic events for postgraduate scholars, including weekly seminars that draw researchers, students, and professionals nationwide. These invited speaker sessions serve as both an introduction to academic research and a chance to network with leading scholars. The Center additionally offers specialized doctoral training through masterclasses conducted by renowned interpreting experts such as Robert Barsky (Vanderbilt University, USA), Ebru Diriker (Bogazici University, Turkey), and Michaela Wolf (University of Graz, Austria). CTIS has hosted numerous international conferences in Manchester with PhD student participation, including: Research Models in Translation Studies II (2011), Citizen Media: New Mediations of Civic Engagement (2013), New Perspectives on Translation (2014), Researching Translation in Popular Culture (2015), Genealogies of Knowledge (2017), and the International Postgraduate Conference in Translation and Interpreting (2018).
