The PGCE Secondary School Direct (Spanish) program equips you with both hands-on teaching experience and academic foundations to excel as a Spanish educator. Unlike traditional PGCE routes, this School Direct pathway offers extra preparatory time in schools before the course begins, along with a tailored curriculum. You'll specialize in teaching either 11-16, 11-18 or 14-19 age groups to achieve Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), mastering the National Curriculum and exam preparation for GCSE, AS and A2 levels. Most of the program emphasizes practical teaching skills through extensive classroom placements, including primary school exposure and teaching rotations across multiple secondary schools. You'll complete 25 weeks of school-based training across various educational settings. This experiential learning is complemented by studying contemporary educational theories, concepts, and current trends. Partnering with schools across Greater Manchester, the School Direct model enables participating schools to handpick trainees who typically continue working within their training school network (though employment isn't guaranteed).
