The University of Manchester's Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology (DCounsPsych) stands as the sole Russell Group institution offering an HCPC and BPS-accredited doctoral program in this field. This comprehensive course comprises four key elements: building theoretical foundations, honing research capabilities, cultivating therapeutic expertise, and fostering personal growth. Students explore a diverse therapeutic framework, beginning with humanistic counseling in year one and progressing to cognitive behavioral therapy in year two. The curriculum requires at least 450 hours of supervised clinical work and 40 hours of personal therapy alongside academic modules. Our faculty consists of practicing psychologist-researchers engaged in NHS, private healthcare, and nonprofit clinical work, bringing expertise in humanistic, cognitive-behavioral, and group analytic therapeutic methods.
