This program equips trainees for careers as clinical psychologists within the UK's National Health Service (NHS). Governed by the Health Professions Council (HPC) and accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS), it enables graduates to register as Practitioner Psychologists with the HPC upon completion. The three-year curriculum also qualifies participants for chartered clinical psychologist status through the BPS. Enrollees become University postgraduate research students and trainee psychologists, employed under NHS contracts in South West England.

Designed to develop clinical psychologists for the NHS, this HPC-regulated and BPS-accredited program leads to HPC registration as Practitioner Psychologists after successful completion. The three-year course also grants eligibility for BPS chartered status. Participants register as postgraduate research students while working as trainee psychologists under NHS contracts in the South West region. The Exeter DClinPsy program follows a reflective scientist-practitioner model, integrating research evidence with clinical practice across three modules. This evidence-based approach connects academic coursework with hands-on research and clinical work, facilitated through close faculty collaboration. Students gain practical experience through active research participation and supervised clinical placements. We strive to develop graduates who positively impact service users, healthcare services, and the clinical psychology field. Our training incorporates valuable perspectives from our Lived Experience Network (individuals with direct service experience) and the Inequalities/Diversity Advisory Group.
