The Nutrition and Behaviour (NAB) Research Group operates within the Human Appetite Research Unit (HARU). Our NAB team primarily investigates how different foods and nutritional components – such as breakfast items, polyphenols, phospholipids, dietary fiber, minerals, and bioactive compounds – influence various health aspects. These include: Cognitive performance measured through objective tests, Stress response and coping mechanisms, Appetite regulation and weight management, Blood sugar control, Subjective wellbeing indicators encompassing both mental and physical health, as well as Gut microbiome and digestive processes. Our core research areas examine breakfast's role in cognitive abilities, academic performance, and behavioral patterns (in educational and home environments). We also study how metabolic conditions like phenylketonuria (PKU), diabetes (gestational and type 2), and cystic fibrosis affect cognition and overall health. Additionally, we explore nutritional approaches for promoting healthy aging, addressing obesity, managing type 2 diabetes, and alleviating chronic fatigue syndrome.
