Infectious diseases continue to pose significant global challenges for both human and animal populations. At IGH, we investigate numerous critical infectious diseases affecting humans and animals, including zoonotic illnesses that can transfer between species. Our research spans the UK, Europe, Africa, and Asia. The Institute of Infection and Global Health at the University of Liverpool was founded to unite top researchers from medical, veterinary, and fundamental science disciplines within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences.

Our human-focused Infection and Global Health research encompasses fundamental, clinical, and population-based studies of various neurological, digestive, respiratory, vector-borne, and sexually-transmitted infections in both adults and children.
Animal-related Infection and Global Health research primarily occurs at the Leahurst campus, where a diverse team of veterinary and medical professionals, statisticians, mathematicians, and basic scientists collaborate on multiple fronts. Their work explores zoonotic pathogens, antimicrobial resistance spread, human behavior's role in disease transmission, managing infections in livestock and pets, and environmental/climate impacts on disease spread.
