The University has allocated more than £20 million towards cancer research, funding the creation of multiple new positions within the Department and the development of the University of Liverpool Cancer Research Centre (ULCRC) facility. Professor Sarah Coupland heads the Liverpool Ocular Oncology Research Group (LOORG) while serving as a Consultant Histopathologist and holding the George Holt Chair of Pathology at the University of Liverpool. Additionally, she directs the North West Cancer Research Centre-University of Liverpool. The research group specializes in the clinical molecular genetics of cancers, with a particular focus on uveal melanoma, conjunctival melanoma, and intraocular and ocular adnexal lymphomas. ITEM: A CR-UK funded multicenter phase II trial investigating imatinib in patients with c-kit positive metastatic uveal melanoma who are in good health. Translational research biosamples include blood specimens, formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue blocks from metastatic lesions, and matched primary tumors (when accessible).
SUAVE: A CR-UK sponsored multicenter randomized phase II study evaluating sunitinib in well-performing patients with metastatic uveal melanoma. Collected biosamples for translational analysis comprise blood samples, formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded tissue blocks from metastatic sites, and corresponding primary tumors (where obtainable).
