The Cultural History track invites you to examine artifacts and concepts, physical objects and worldviews, medical records and museum collections, photographs and cinematic works while exploring pivotal themes that have influenced history, such as national identity, gender, race, sexuality, and modernism. This engaging MA program delves into one of history's most dynamic research areas; cultural history analyzes period-specific cultures to comprehend how individuals interpreted their surroundings. You'll learn specialized research techniques employed by cultural historians, engage with ongoing historiographical and theoretical discussions, and connect with related fields like cultural studies, literary analysis, art history, and sociology. Additionally, you'll have the chance to focus your dissertation on your preferred aspect of cultural history.
The program incorporates case studies spanning Britain, continental Europe, European colonial territories, and North America from the 1700s to contemporary times.
Important note: Applicants should select 'MA History' on the digital application portal. Indicate your desired specialization pathway within your personal statement.
