The BSc (Hons) Bioveterinary Science program at Lincoln enables students to investigate the scientific principles behind animal health and illness. This comprehensive course integrates fundamental animal science with practical laboratory work, field studies, and computational analysis.
The curriculum covers essential aspects of animal health, including pathogen life cycles, infectious diseases, immune responses, preventive strategies, diagnostic methods, and therapeutic approaches. Learners can examine these topics across diverse species, from domestic pets and livestock to wildlife and exotic animals, with some applications to human health.
A highlight of the final year is the optional 'Overseas Field Course', where students can conduct research in unique ecosystems while studying native flora and fauna. Past destinations have featured Ecuador's cloud forests, South Africa's Mankwe Wildlife Reserve, and coastal Portugal.
First-year studies establish foundational knowledge in animal anatomy, physiology, cellular biology, genetics, and metabolic biochemistry within health and disease contexts.
The second year advances this knowledge through specialized animal health studies while allowing students to explore personal interests in areas like animal behavior, conservation, toxicology, and reproductive science.
Final-year students undertake independent research projects with the option for international fieldwork. Advanced modules such as Disease Control and Veterinary Parasitology complete the degree. State-of-the-art facilities support student research, including cytometry equipment, confocal microscopes, a bioacoustics laboratory, and specialized animal behavior spaces featuring aquatic, reptilian, and insect habitats.
