Veterinary biosciences is a biology-focused program that equips students with comprehensive knowledge of fundamental biological principles, particularly emphasizing animal health and disease. Taught by top researchers and veterinary professionals, the curriculum emphasizes research-driven education. The University of Glasgow holds the top UK ranking for Animal Science (The Times & Sunday Times Good University Guide 2023). Students can opt for the MSci track, featuring an extra research year typically completed at UK or international industry or research institutions between the third and final academic years.
Glasgow's Veterinary Biosciences program collaborates with research institutes across both Gilmorehill and Garscube campuses. The School of Biodiversity, One Health and Veterinary Medicine (BOHVM) provides hands-on learning opportunities at its operational farm, the Scottish Centre for Production Animal Health & Food Safety facility, Weipers Centre Equine Hospital, and Small Animal Hospital.
This specialized, practical program prepares graduates for diverse careers in veterinary biosciences. Alumni have pursued advanced degrees in biomedical specialties or entered fields like animal nutrition, welfare, public health, veterinary diagnostics, research, physiotherapy, education, pharmaceuticals, and disease risk analysis.
