Our department is research-focused, conducting studies with global recognition. We collaborate closely with the NHS, uniting fundamental and clinical researchers specializing in microbiology, respiratory medicine, and immunology. Doctoral candidates undertake self-directed research projects mentored by an advisory team. Typically, full-time students finish within 3.0-3.5 years, while part-time students have 6.0-6.5 years. An additional full-time year (or equivalent part-time period) may be used for thesis preparation. The dissertation should not surpass 50,000 words, offering novel insights and research worthy of publication. Candidates must successfully defend their work in an oral examination to earn their degree.
