The Department of Genetics and Genome Biology is globally recognized for its pioneering research in core genetic principles. PhD candidates undertake self-directed research projects with faculty supervision, typically spanning 3-3.5 years (full-time) or 6-6.5 years (part-time). An additional year (or remaining portion) may be used for thesis preparation. The dissertation, limited to 50,000 words, must offer novel insights and research worthy of publication. Final degree conferral requires successful defense of the thesis in an oral examination.
