Our Master's in Victorian Studies offers an interdisciplinary exploration of Britain's Victorian era. At Leicester, you'll join the prestigious Victorian Studies Centre - the UK's first and most established institution of its kind. Since its founding in 1966, our Centre has built a 50-year legacy of groundbreaking research, with particular strengths in Victorian science, biographical studies, Dickensian literature, and Brontë scholarship. Beyond coursework, you'll enjoy enriching activities including reading circles, public lectures, and our yearly Victorian Studies Lecture. We were honored to organize the 2019 George Eliot Bicentenary Conference, attracting academics worldwide. Our vibrant, international postgraduate community creates an inspiring academic atmosphere. This program lets you deeply explore your specific Victorian interests, building significantly on undergraduate knowledge. The curriculum balances famous works with lesser-known Victorian treasures, providing comprehensive historical understanding. The Victorian Society module in your first term establishes essential context, covering both broad historical movements and subtle cultural details - knowledge that will enhance all subsequent core and elective modules throughout your degree.
