A Master of Arts (MA) by Research enables you to pursue a one-year (full-time) or two-year (part-time) academic investigation with minimal structured coursework. This format provides an opportunity to examine a specialized subject area within a more condensed timeframe compared to comprehensive PhD programs.
Students pursuing a Research Master's select a focused area of investigation and enjoy more autonomy in their academic work than traditional taught Master's programs offer.
You'll develop an approved research plan in collaboration with your advisor during the initial phase of your studies. Throughout your research journey, you'll enhance your investigative abilities through specialized training workshops and academic events.
Your primary advisor, typically supported by a team of up to three faculty members, will provide expert guidance throughout your research endeavor.
Upon completing your research, you'll document your discoveries in a concise thesis of approximately 25,000 words for evaluation. We welcome proposals for practice-based projects that may incorporate creative portfolios alongside written analysis. Your advisory team will help determine the appropriate balance between practical and theoretical components.
After successfully defending your thesis, you'll earn your degree. If this research experience proves rewarding, you may choose to continue your academic journey by applying for a full doctoral program (PhD).
