Pursuing an MSc by Research offers a valuable chance to enhance your intellectual capabilities, research expertise, and academic focus in a specific discipline. This 12-month program (or 24 months part-time) centers entirely on a research project, differing from taught Master's degrees that combine coursework with a shorter research component. Under the guidance of at least two academic supervisors, you'll dedicate yourself to designing, executing, and documenting your research, with opportunities to publish your findings when suitable.
Chemistry, at its core, involves the transformation of molecular structures. Our research team advances the pioneering work of 20th-century scientists by investigating, simulating, and manipulating atomic and molecular behavior during chemical reactions. We employ cutting-edge techniques like terahertz spectroscopy for studying molecular movements in condensed phases, along with velocity map imaging and femtosecond spectroscopy to examine atomic-scale reactions with quantum state precision and ultra-fast temporal resolution. Our work equally emphasizes developing innovative computational approaches for quantum dynamics, which frequently guide our experimental investigations. Ultimately, we aim to extend these methodologies to more complex chemical processes, forging connections with biological systems, quantum physics, and atmospheric/astrophysical chemistry.
