Studying human nutrition is crucial for enhancing societal health. Our work generates, progresses, and shares nutritional science to benefit public wellbeing. We investigate dietary patterns across all life stages, from pregnancy and childhood to adolescence and older age. A particular focus examines how diet influences chronic illness progression. Our groundbreaking research on sugar's health effects earned Dr. Charlotte Evans the Nutrition Society's 2016 Public Health Nutrition Medal.
We frequently utilize the UK Women's Cohort Study, among Britain's most extensive and enduring research projects of its kind http:/ukwcs.leeds.ac.uk/. Our policy-oriented public health initiatives have reshaped government recommendations regarding pregnancy caffeine limits and informed national sugar consumption guidelines. Globally, we're establishing the world's first WHO Collaborating Center for Nutritional Epidemiology. Our international efforts include contributing to European dietary surveys and establishing standardized food portion measurements.
