The University of Hull's Mathematics department provides a dynamic research setting for pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. We encourage research applications across all our specialized fields. Our faculty members possess diverse expertise spanning numerous disciplines, including pure mathematics concepts in low-dimensional topology and asymptotic geometric analysis, as well as fluid dynamics, superstring theory, and astrophysics.
During your PhD studies at Hull, you'll receive comprehensive guidance from two supervisors specializing in your research area. Additionally, you'll become part of an authentic mathematical community.
Asymptotic Geometric Analysis examines the geometric and linear characteristics of finite-dimensional objects, normed spaces, and convex bodies, along with the behavior of their quantitative parameters as dimensions approach infinity.
Our research at Hull primarily focuses on the local structure of classical Lp spaces, particularly finite-dimensional normed subspaces featuring symmetric bases. We also investigate the geometry of random polytopes within isotropic convex bodies and analyze singular values of random matrices, especially those with non-identically distributed random entries.
