The University of Hull's Mathematics department provides a vibrant research setting for pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. We encourage research applications across all our specialized fields. Our faculty members possess diverse expertise spanning numerous disciplines, including pure mathematics concepts such as low-dimensional topology and asymptotic geometric analysis, as well as interdisciplinary areas like fluid mechanics, superstring theory, and astrophysics.
PhD candidates at Hull receive comprehensive guidance from two dedicated supervisors specializing in their research field, while also joining an authentic mathematical research community.
Our research includes developing environmental mathematical models to examine estuarine river flows and assess how upstream pollutant discharges affect vegetation development. Studies have also explored the viability of underground storage facilities for low-to-medium level radioactive materials.
Further research focuses on numerical approaches for solving extensive linear algebraic equation systems in environmental modeling, along with examining genetic algorithms for optimization applications.
