The Master's in Chemistry program will broaden and deepen your understanding across all chemistry disciplines, equipping you for a professional research career.
Our strong industry connections, particularly with pharmaceutical companies, provide valuable networking opportunities through regular guest lectures at the School of Chemistry. You'll join one of our world-class research teams for your project, complemented by specialized coursework. As part of ScotCHEM - a collaboration of seven Scottish universities dedicated to exceptional postgraduate education - our School of Chemistry holds an Athena Swan Bronze Award, reflecting our commitment to gender equality and creating an inclusive research environment. The program cultivates essential professional skills including project coordination, collaborative teamwork, sophisticated data interpretation, scientific problem-solving, research communication (through posters and presentations), literature analysis, advanced lab techniques, and audience-specific communication strategies. This degree serves as a springboard for leadership roles in both academic and industrial science sectors. During the summer months (June-August), you'll complete an intensive 12-week research project to apply your knowledge, develop independent research capabilities, and refine your presentation techniques.
Graduates pursue diverse career paths in chemical/pharmaceutical sectors, ranging from laboratory positions and equipment specialization to regulatory compliance, workplace safety, and patent law. While research positions typically require doctoral qualifications, this program offers excellent preparation for PhD studies.
