Program Highlights Our Secondary Science with Chemistry PGCE prepares you to teach science with chemistry specialization at secondary level. The Curriculum Specialist module fosters inclusive, engaging science instruction that cultivates practical abilities and chemistry enthusiasm. We investigate numerous teaching methodologies, theories, and current research, examining their educational foundations. You'll implement these concepts creatively through collaborative planning, weekly reflections, and practice evaluations. Our university collaborates with Science Learning Partnerships and the Royal Society of Chemistry, whose experts lead sessions on practical chemistry instruction and subject mastery. This program runs concurrently with Biology and Physics courses, offering cross-disciplinary development with chemistry emphasis. Instruction primarily occurs in customized labs, supplemented by alternative learning sites demonstrating real-world chemistry applications. Annual locations vary from our forest school to zoological settings. The Evidence-Informed Curriculum Specialist unit deepens your understanding of contemporary chemistry education contexts and practical implementation through lectures, conferences, and interdisciplinary discussions. Enrichment activities extend beyond curriculum requirements while supporting wellbeing. School placements allow you to apply learning from our School Experience 1 unit, developing independent lesson planning and delivery skills while exploring innovative pedagogies and behavior management strategies. School Experience 2 builds on this foundation, focusing on adaptive teaching, assessment utilization, and student progress promotion. Available as one-year full-time or two-year part-time study. Career Pathways Graduates qualify for QTS certification, enabling secondary school chemistry teaching positions. Many alumni secure rewarding roles in regional schools. Beyond QTS, the program offers up to 60 Master's-level credits with progression opportunities to MAMSc, MPhil, PhD, and EdD qualifications.
