Pursuing a postgraduate research degree demands commitment and enthusiasm for your chosen field. The journey is demanding but immensely fulfilling. As a doctoral candidate, you'll conduct specialized research under the guidance of a principal supervisor and additional co-supervisors.
At its core, chemistry involves the transformation of molecular structures. Our research team advances the pioneering work of 20th century scientists by investigating, simulating, and manipulating atomic and molecular behavior during chemical reactions. We employ cutting-edge techniques like terahertz spectroscopy to examine molecular movements in condensed phases, along with velocity map imaging and femtosecond spectroscopy that provide quantum state resolution and real-time observation of bond formation and breakage. Our work equally emphasizes developing innovative computational approaches for quantum dynamics, which frequently guide our experimental investigations. Ultimately, we aim to extend these methodologies to analyze increasingly complex reactions, forging connections with biological systems, quantum physics, and chemical processes in atmospheric and astrophysical contexts.
