A Master's by Research (MSc) program enables students to complete a one-year (full-time) research-focused degree with minimal structured coursework. This accelerated format provides an opportunity to investigate an academic topic more briefly than a comprehensive PhD program.
Unlike taught Master's degrees, Research Master's candidates select a defined project area and maintain significant autonomy throughout their studies.
Students collaborate with their supervisor during the initial months to establish an approved research plan. Throughout the project, participants can enhance their research capabilities through specialized training workshops and academic events.
The program culminates in submitting a condensed thesis of approximately 25,000 words for formal assessment.
Graduates who find the research experience rewarding may choose to pursue a full doctoral qualification (PhD) afterward.
Each student receives primary supervision from an academic advisor, typically supported by a team of up to three supervisors who provide project guidance and mentorship.
