If you're passionate about literature, language, history, or cultural studies, our postgraduate programs offer an encouraging academic setting.
We provide diverse courses and guidance aligned with our faculty's research expertise. Potential research areas include: contemporary and historical Celtic languages, literatures, and cultures, with particular focus on modern Scottish Gaelic and Irish linguistics, Scottish Gaelic literary works from the 18th to 21st centuries, Gaelic language studies, medieval Celtic texts, early Gaelic/Irish, Middle Welsh, manuscript traditions of Celtic regions, medieval Celtic art, and Scottish toponymy. Our program fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, with faculty and students regularly working alongside researchers from Archaeology, Scottish History, and English Language departments. As a key component of the Centre for Scottish and Celtic Studies, we maintain an inclusive research community and also contribute to the Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies.
Our Master of Research program combines structured coursework with independent investigation. Students complete 60-80 credits of taught modules alongside original research that advances scholarly understanding.
