This program culminates in Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) certification for teaching students aged 11-16, enabling you to teach in secondary schools across England and Wales. Whenever feasible, we provide opportunities to gain experience with the 11-18 age group. Ensuring all young learners achieve proficiency in at least one language is critically important. This ongoing need for skilled language educators means trainee teachers can access some of the most substantial training bursaries available.
We'll guide you in becoming an exceptional modern languages teacher, capable of creating dynamic, varied lessons that inspire and educate every student.
Through subject studies, you'll learn techniques to overcome learning obstacles and help students at all levels maximize their language potential while developing their verbal and written abilities.
Established in 2001 through collaboration with local authorities, UEL's Secondary PGCE program was created to alleviate the teacher shortage in East London's secondary schools.
Our partnership benefits from the involvement of multiple London boroughs - Barking & Dagenham, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Waltham Forest, and Redbridge. This strong network means our alumni now teach in nearly every East London secondary school, with some having advanced to deputy head positions or senior leadership roles in schools that host our current trainees.
