The English Department engages in research across all core disciplines: literature, linguistics, and creative writing. We strive to promote globally recognized work in these fields while building strategic collaborations, especially with regional and national cultural institutions, to extend our research's impact. Renowned internationally, our department offers students research-driven education encompassing diverse literary, linguistic, and applied linguistic studies. This cultivates essential analytical, communication, and adaptive thinking skills valued across contemporary professions.
Our distinguished faculty specializes in English and related literatures from medieval to modern times. Additionally, we excel in various language studies, including sociolinguistics, pragmatics, stylistics, philosophy of language, discourse analysis, and applied linguistics. Our creative writing programs are guided by published, award-winning authors with expertise in both critical and creative composition, particularly in poetry/poetics and international translated works. Students may also pursue a dual-degree option, splitting their studies between the University of Liverpool and Paris-Diderot University.
