Course Overview
In collaboration with our Secondary Lead School partners, the University of Chester provides a Modern Languages specialization (ages 11-16 with sixth form extension) leading to PGCE with QTS certification. Teaching offers immense rewards alongside significant challenges. Our program equips you with the essential knowledge, skills, and understanding to excel as an educator. We cultivate teachers who are deeply committed to advancing both their students' and their own professional growth.
Modern Languages instruction is delivered through partnerships with leading educational institutions: the Alliance of Leading Learning, Sandstone Trust, and Wade Deacon Trust for general language studies, while the Salop Teaching Partnership and Wade Deacon Trust focus on French, Spanish, and German instruction.
Throughout the program, you'll develop techniques to enhance students' linguistic abilities through your subject expertise. The curriculum ensures comprehensive preparation to meet all fundamental national curriculum standards.
Program Content
Fundamentally, this course launches your teaching career. We deliver exceptional educator preparation through modules that develop:
- Advanced pedagogical, assessment, and curriculum knowledge
- Specialized competencies for specific age groups and subjects
- Expertise in broader professional matters including classroom management and inclusive education
- Enrichment experiences
- 120 days of practical training across at least two school environments
Applicants will normally: Hold or be expected to gain a minimum of a 2:2 honours degree; Have GCSE grade C/grade 4 in English and Mathematics. IELTS 7.0 overall (with no less than 5.5 in each band); UK degree with a 2:2 or above (studied and completed in the UK).
