Applied linguistics tackles practical language challenges by applying knowledge from modern linguistic theories, psychology, and education.
Our MA program caters to individuals seeking deeper understanding of how foreign or second languages (especially English) are acquired, and how various teaching approaches influence language skills. You'll examine diverse perspectives on language and learning processes, along with research methods for studying language education. The program lets you combine modules on language acquisition with practical classroom applications.
Graduates pursue careers in academic research, publishing, journalism, administration, public service, and education. You'll gain valuable professional skills including research methodology, data interpretation, analytical thinking, report preparation, and presentation techniques.
We collaborate with the University's Career Services to connect students with internships, work placements, volunteer positions, and employment opportunities.
Our Department of Language and Linguistics also provides PhD and MPhil supervision in specialized areas such as language learning, teaching methodologies, cultural communication, psycholinguistics, speech pathology, sociolinguistics, and theoretical linguistics.
