This joint honors program offers an in-depth exploration of both Art History and Chinese Studies.

Leveraging the University of Edinburgh's rich heritage in Asian visual and literary culture studies, our program also draws on extensive expertise in global art across various historical periods.

You'll develop proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking modern standard Chinese to an advanced level, with no previous experience necessary.

The curriculum capitalizes on increasing worldwide demand for Asian art expertise while providing comprehensive coverage of global artistic traditions from approximately 500 CE to contemporary works.

Edinburgh's vibrant festival culture boasts outstanding resources for art and cultural studies, including numerous galleries, theaters, libraries, and specialized collections.

As Scotland's sole institution offering both single and joint honors Chinese undergraduate programs, we provide unique opportunities to:

study modern standard Chinese alongside China's historical and cultural context
engage with a broad art history survey before specializing in your preferred periods or themes during honors years
Your third year will involve study abroad in China or Taiwan, offering complete language immersion and direct access to Asian artworks and cultural landmarks.

Graduates emerge with a valuable combination of comprehensive cultural education and specialized expertise sought by employers globally.
