This four-year dual degree program is offered through our prestigious Department of Languages and Cultures alongside the top-rated Department of Linguistics and English Language. The mandatory year abroad allows you to fully engage with the language and culture. No prior Chinese language experience is necessary, as we provide an accelerated beginner's course. You'll acquire language skills and cultural knowledge through dynamic, interactive methods. For instance, students explore Chinese language within its social context by joining various initiatives like the Chinese Friendship Project. Past events have featured excursions to Manchester's Chinatown, Chinese culinary workshops, film screenings, traditional festival observances, and other cultural experiences. Our Chinese Studies program focuses on achieving complete fluency. Combining Linguistics with Chinese Studies enhances your understanding of language structure, providing deep insights into English, Chinese, and numerous global languages. The initial year focuses on Chinese language fundamentals within its cultural framework, plus essential Linguistics coursework. Students may also select an additional minor subject.
