This program culminates in Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) certification for teaching students aged 11-16, enabling you to work in secondary schools across England and Wales. When opportunities arise, you'll also gain exposure to teaching the 11-18 age group. As a drama educator, you'll guide students in uncovering and cultivating their creative potential, extending beyond just theatrical performance and production aspects. You'll impart collaborative skills that help young minds develop ideas collectively. Your training will equip you to create and conduct dynamic, meaningful lessons that highlight drama's significance and its connections to other disciplines.
We'll help you grow into an exceptional drama teacher who can make the subject vibrant by designing and delivering varied, stimulating lessons that both educate and inspire every student. Our secondary training comprises three core components: subject-specific studies, general professional development, and practical school placements. Unlike other university programs, ours maintains a strong subject focus. You'll learn from expert tutors with real classroom experience, many of whom actively shape educational research, policy, and curriculum advancements in their field.
The University of East London established its Secondary PGCE program in 2001 through collaboration with local authorities to tackle the teacher shortage in East London's secondary schools.
This initiative involves ongoing cooperation with the London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Waltham Forest, and Redbridge.
