You'll gain proficiency in GIS instruction and outdoor fieldwork experiences. The curriculum spans diverse geographical topics including physical landscapes, cultural identity, environmental sustainability, economic globalization, and climatic systems. You'll examine evolving curricular standards and modern educational discussions like diversifying geographical perspectives. Regular engagement with cutting-edge pedagogical research will inform your teaching approach and professional growth. You'll study all components of the Geography National Curriculum while learning to create seamless educational transitions across grade levels. Our program fosters the confidence to design forward-thinking Geography lessons that prepare students for our evolving global landscape. Guidance comes from seasoned educators during school placements and university faculty. The course develops highly skilled teachers for grades 11-16, with additional training opportunities for post-16 instruction. Established as a teacher training institution 175 years ago, our programs recently met stringent new accreditation standards, earning reaccreditation from the Department of Education in 2022. Ofsted has rated our Initial Teacher Training as 'Good', particularly praising our distinctive sustainability focus and robust school partnerships.
