Biology ranks as the most favored science subject at A level. As a core part of the National Curriculum's Science component and a standalone GCSE option in numerous schools, it's the third most popular A level subject nationwide, creating consistent demand for skilled biology educators. We prioritize strengthening your subject-specific teaching knowledge. The subject studies component of your training helps cultivate essential skills and understanding of science, with special emphasis on biology within secondary education settings.
Our goal is to help you become an exceptional biology teacher who motivates young learners through creative, dynamic lessons that engage students of all abilities. The subject knowledge portion of your training focuses on building expertise in science education, particularly biology, for the secondary school environment.
Our facilities for teacher training are outstanding, featuring three specialized laboratories equipped with multimedia training resources. To enhance your outdoor teaching capabilities, you'll receive training at outdoor education centers.
The University of East London established its Secondary PGCE program in 2001 through collaboration with local authorities to alleviate the teacher shortage in east London's secondary schools.
Our partnership involves cooperation with multiple London boroughs including Barking & Dagenham, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Waltham Forest, and Redbridge. This strong network means our graduates teach in nearly every east London secondary school, with some now holding leadership positions as deputy heads or senior managers in schools that host our current trainees.
