The BA (Hons) Sustainable Fashion and Management program addresses a critical educational need by reimagining design analysis, development, and production processes in fashion education. The UK currently leads Europe in clothing consumption per person, with alarming statistics revealing we discard approximately 100,000 bags of used garments weekly to charities like Barnado's alone (Fixing Fashion - 2019 govt. report; R. Clark 2019).
Modern fashion designers must develop systems and products that leverage existing garments and digital solutions to combat overconsumption. This degree program emphasizes repurposing clothing as raw materials, partnering with industry specialists to create a curriculum covering garment assessment, consumer behavior, circular systems, production oversight, and 3D design exploration.
Students will examine theoretical frameworks supporting circular fashion production and repair/reuse methodologies. The course draws on faculty expertise and industry professionals to deliver current, applicable skills. Through 3D modeling and rendering technologies, students will master rapid prototyping techniques that reduce material waste while developing digital competencies transferable across creative and technological fields.
Fashion offers diverse career paths with evolving, in-demand skills that provide flexibility across creative sectors. This sustainability-focused program opens doors to roles in supply chain management, textile innovation, and engineering. Graduates may pursue careers as sustainability consultants, production managers, fabric technologists, or innovation specialists.
Mastering ethical practices, textile technologies, and circular systems gives graduates a competitive edge in the job market, preparing them for leadership roles in shaping fashion's sustainable future.
