This cutting-edge program merges a robust interdisciplinary base with specialized anthropological approaches to international development studies. Core modules examine pressing modern challenges through an anthropological viewpoint – covering topics like poverty, inequality, gender dynamics, corruption, and conflict – with particular emphasis on cultural diversity and how various social structures, relationships, and belief systems globally influence lives and societal transformation. Students will acquire hands-on training in essential anthropological methodologies and can explore material culture at the prestigious Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts.

Alongside this anthropological specialization, the curriculum provides comprehensive exposure to development's core concepts, institutions, and methodologies, integrating anthropological perspectives with other social science disciplines such as economics, environmental studies, geography, media, and political science. Learners can deepen their knowledge of specific global regions through specialized modules on sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, or Latin America, while also exploring other developmental aspects and viewpoints aligned with their academic interests.
