This cutting-edge program merges a robust interdisciplinary base with specialized economic perspectives on international development. Core modules examine pressing modern challenges through an economic lens – covering poverty, marginalization, deprivation, international aid, environmental concerns, trade, and globalization – with particular emphasis on the roots of economic and social disparities and potential solutions. Students will acquire hands-on expertise in economic methodologies and statistical analysis, mastering fundamental data evaluation methods and specialized software to critically assess macroeconomic and microeconomic issues.
Beyond the economic emphasis, the curriculum provides comprehensive exposure to development's core concepts, institutions, and approaches, integrating anthropological perspectives with insights from various social sciences like economics, environmental studies, geography, media, and political science. Regional specialization is available through modules focusing on sub-Saharan Africa, South Asia, or Latin America, while elective options allow for exploration of diverse development viewpoints. The third year includes study abroad at partner universities, with coursework designed to complement the School's offerings. This highly adaptable degree enables students to customize their learning journey, blending broad interdisciplinary knowledge with focused specialization.
