Students conduct guided yet autonomous research, culminating in a thesis that presents their findings. This dissertation must show comprehensive knowledge of the subject, including its key sources and scholarly works. It should exhibit analytical judgment and balanced assessment when examining evidence and others' viewpoints. A doctoral thesis must make an innovative contribution to the field, either through new discoveries or by applying fresh, independent critical perspectives.
