Delve into the intricate tapestry of the medieval era through our specialized Medieval Studies track. This curriculum aims to deepen your knowledge of medieval history or provide a comprehensive introduction for new learners.
The program features extensive scholarly coverage spanning the medieval centuries (approximately 300 to 1500 CE). It examines Western Europe, Scandinavia, the Eastern Mediterranean, and other regions through diverse lenses including faith traditions, economic systems, the Crusades, Islamic civilization, gender studies, manuscript analysis, theatrical traditions, regional narratives (focusing on the West Midlands, Scotland, Spain, Iceland, and Byzantium), artifacts, comparative approaches, and the worldwide medieval experience.
Throughout the coursework, you'll be guided to connect classroom learning with your individual research focus and final thesis project.

Qualification Requirements
An honours degree in a subject related to the chosen pathway, such as History, English, Archaeology or Theology, is required, normally upper second class level (2.1) or its equivalent for overseas applicants. Graduates without these qualifications (for example with a lower second class degree, or a degree in a different subject) are very welcome to apply and their application will be considered on its merits. Applicants may be asked to submit written work and/or attend an interview. For some pathways evidence of relevant linguistic ability may be required.
