The School of Applied Social and Policy Sciences fosters a dynamic, interdisciplinary research culture, hosting diverse projects that address critical social science issues. We're globally recognized for our impactful, high-caliber research, focusing on three core areas: enduring and new socio-economic issues, policy implementation in divided communities, and social justice at national and international levels.

For those considering doctoral studies in Social Work at Ulster University, you'll become part of an academic network collaborating with practitioners and service users both locally and worldwide. We enhance research literacy among undergraduates and develop research competencies through post-qualification programs. Our team partners with social work professionals, employers, the HSC R&D Division, Northern Ireland's Office of Social Services, and the Northern Ireland Social Care Council to address the field's changing research demands. We collaborate with the International Federation of Social Work on global workforce studies and participate in cross-disciplinary initiatives, working closely with Irish social work scholars through the Social Work Education and Research Forum. Our European engagements include partnerships with organizations like the European Social Work Research Association and its Special Interest Groups.
