Pursue a PhD or MPhil in American Studies at Swansea University to embark on an extensive research project driven by your academic interests. The PhD program spans three years full-time (six part-time), while the MPhil requires two years full-time (four part-time). Candidates submit a thesis of up to 100,000 words for PhDs or 60,000 for MPhils, showcasing original research that advances the field, followed by an oral defense (viva voce). Present your findings at departmental seminars and the College of Arts and Humanities Postgraduate Conference. Qualification Requirements

Applicants for PhD must normally hold an undergraduate degree at 2.1 level and a master’s degree with a minimum overall grade at ‘Merit’. Alternatively, applicants with a UK first class honours degree (or Non-UK equivalent as defined by Swansea University) not holding a master’s degree, will be considered on an individual basis. IELTS 6.5 Overall (with no individual component below 6.5) or Swansea University recognised equivalent.
