The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures provides exceptional research opportunities and PhD supervision spanning all eras of Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American studies, encompassing literature, history, cultural studies, film, theater, and music. King's College introduced Spanish instruction in 1831 and was the first British university to teach Portuguese in the 1860s. With the creation of the Cervantes Chair in 1916 and the Camoens Chair in 1919, King's has emerged as a global leader in Spanish and Portuguese studies.
