The MA History program immerses you in diverse historical topics while equipping you with digital research methodologies. Our expert faculty, active scholars in their respective fields, deliver all modules, enriching your academic journey through their specialized knowledge. Designed for flexibility, the curriculum features five core modules that blend traditional historical scholarship with cutting-edge research techniques, addressing key interpretive issues shaping contemporary historical discourse. A distinctive feature is our emphasis on digital history initiatives and current academic debates. These structured modules prepare you for your dissertation - an independent research project tailored to your interests, guided by a dedicated supervisor. You'll receive continuous support from both your supervisor and Northumbria University's History Department faculty, comprising approximately 30 publishing scholars specializing in various historical periods, regions, and methodologies. Our accessible faculty actively engage with student research. As a postgraduate student, you'll utilize our advanced learning resources and participate in academic events at the Institute of the Humanities, including the biweekly History Research Seminar featuring international scholars.
This MA program serves as excellent preparation for doctoral studies, with guidance available for PhD applications and funding proposals.
