The MA in Human Geography Research is an accredited pathway under the ESRC Northern Ireland/North East (NINE) Doctoral Training Partnership. This postgraduate program offers comprehensive training in research methodologies, analytical skills, and theoretical frameworks to prepare students for research-focused careers. Our human geography research focuses on several key domains: cultural and social geography, economic geography studies, geopolitics, and international development. Newcastle University stands among the UK's premier institutions for geographical research. Our academic excellence was demonstrated in 2014 when we achieved outstanding ratings for our research publications, with 80% classified as world-leading or internationally excellent - placing us fourth nationally for research quality. The university's research impact was equally impressive, sharing third place nationally. Evaluations of diverse case studies revealed 70% achieved world-leading status, covering areas such as: higher education's contribution to regional development, innovative economic benchmarking approaches, water quality evaluation standards, and the societal effects of human trafficking.
