The MA in Geography (Research Methods) offers comprehensive training in both theoretical and practical methodologies applicable to social sciences and human geography studies.

Accredited by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), this program blends technical skill development with reflective exercises on personal experiences, which students can later apply to advanced research. Instruction occurs in intimate classroom settings that foster collaboration, emphasizing dialogue about pressing topics in the discipline.

Core curriculum, designed and taught by subject experts following ESRC guidelines, spans from modern human geography philosophies to cross-disciplinary research approaches. Students additionally select from specialized electives covering areas like advanced ethnographic studies, multilevel statistical modeling, computational social science, culminating in a self-directed dissertation project.

The Department's facilities have undergone approximately £2 million in upgrades, featuring state-of-the-art laboratories, a dedicated workshop, comprehensive field equipment resources, and a cartography center - all supported by expert technical personnel.

This program forms part of an interconnected network of research-focused graduate degrees across the University. Students join a dynamic postgraduate community that combines scholarly rigor with social engagement, including a mentorship program pairing new researchers with seasoned academics for guidance and support.
