Studies in Physical Geography primarily concentrate on glacial and periglacial landscapes as well as environmental transformations during the Quaternary period. This field is represented by Keele University's Environmental and Landscape Change Research Group, part of the Earth Systems Research Cluster in the School. The group emphasizes analyzing historical environmental processes to inform predictions about future changes. Their expertise spans four main domains: Quaternary Environmental Dynamics Glacial and periglacial systems Reconstruction of glacial landforms and ice sheet evolution Modeling climate patterns, ice sheet behavior, and sea level forecasts Biogeochemical processes Research initiatives in Physical Geography receive financial backing from various organizations such as UK Research Councils, the Environment Agency, the Royal Society, Natural England, The Nuffield Foundation, the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Australian Research Council, and the European Commission.
