Lancaster's combined German Studies and Politics program is delivered collaboratively by the Department of Languages and Cultures and the Department of Politics, Philosophy and Religion.
The German Studies component enables you to develop advanced language proficiency while gaining comprehensive insights into German-speaking societies within a worldwide framework. The Politics curriculum examines fundamental concepts, themes, and historical developments that influence modern global affairs.
During your initial year, you'll engage with German language studies alongside its cultural background, while the core Politics module covers essential topics including liberal democracy principles, globalization trends, and international security challenges. You'll also select a complementary minor subject to enhance your academic focus.
In your second year, you'll advance your linguistic abilities while delving deeper into the cultural, political, and historical aspects of German-speaking nations. The program offers internationally focused modules that encourage comparative analysis of European and global contexts. The Politics component provides diverse elective options to tailor your studies.
